Presentations

Overall I loved the presentations so far and feel they have brought alot more knowledge and depth into the class. I think it helps the class because your really able to learn alot about each of these artists in just 20 minutes. I particularly like the presentation that Mark and Brent gave about Zachary Booth. I've always been interested in computers and all that's encompassed from them. In High School I was really into computers and started making programs and web pages for people when the whole Internet boom came about. Because of this i was very interested in Zach's work. I love how he uses programs to make interactive artwork such as save the baby and double-dutch rope. I feel that there theme of Agressive vs Assertive is a very good analogy on what Zach is trying to explain. I just find it funny how random people where asked to contribute by playing the game having no knowledge on how to play it and assumed they had to help get the aliens to the baby. If you sit back and think about it why would you ever want to help aliens get to a baby which i think is the point behind this peice. I goes back to there theme of Aggresive vs. Assertive because everyone was so drawn to figuring out the game and assumed because they were giving these tools they were to help bring the aliens to the baby when if they were assertive and thought about it they would be like hey what maybe we shouldnt help the aliens at all.

2nd Life

I found myself trying to figure out the controls and actions of my 2nd life person for hours. When making the attributes of my second life body i thought it would be fun to just go crazy with it. I made my person with very unproportionate attributes like huge bug eyes, elf like ears, extremely tall with a strange hair style. I feel most people make there person based on who they perceive themselves or what they would want themselves to look like in real life. I realized how hard it is to get someone to want to talk to you or even all you to contribute to a group discussion they don't really want any random outsides coming in and just throwing input at them when I wasn't there for the whole discussion. I believe its alot easier to walk up to someone or a group in second life but just as easy as it is to walk up to anyone or any group and try to talk to them its just as easy to ignore someone or walk away from them. This shows how technology has changes the way people confront one another with issues. You see it today how its so easy to hang a phone up on someone your having a conversation with than to tell them you aren't going to talk to them anymore and walk away. Same thing with talking online when you get in an argument with someone you just sign off on them. Im just amazed at all the things you can do on 2nd life similar to the real world. I just don't understand why people would spend money on here unless its a business and there doing it for advertising. But when a typical person just searching on second life starts to buy property and clothing its absurd. I thought that going on second life and trying to learn a bit about it and makign your own person was very enlightening but also showed you how to much technology can be the worst of us.

Pointillism and Technology

One of my favorite style of art would have to be pointillism. I love how they are able to make such a portriat from a ton of tiny little dots that are all different shades of each color. How these artists are able to make shadows and wrinkles in the dresses from all these tiny dots is fascinating. The picture i uploaded above is one of my favorites and is probably the most famous painting of pointillism. Georges Seurat called this painting "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte"which incorporates alot of animals, women, men, and children. Its suppose to show you what upper class people would usually do on a sunday with there family. The detail is just amazing to me even in the distance you can still make out all the people and the reflection of light of the water is perfect. What really draws me into this style of art and its relation to technology is that pixels for our televisions and computer screen goes off the same concept as pointillism. I love the fact that it relates and indirectly contributes to technology in today's age. Who would have known that pointillism who have an impact in such a way down the road.

MFA Elightenment

I haven't been to the MFA since I was in middle school around 10 years ago. I regret how long its been because there are so many interesting things inside the Museum. I forget how big it was and every era that they offer art about. I mite have to say I was the most interested in the designs,sculptures,architecture,statues that came from the Greek/Roman Times. I'm just amazed at the craftsmanship they had working with all different types of stone. How they used such intricate details, such has in the curves in the robes that they wore and the curves of their hair and beards. It's such a lsot art and my curiosity arises to wondering how they were able to build these structures because it almost seems as if replicating any of this isn't possible anymore. I'ts so interesting to me how the sculptures portrayed all the men to have perfect bodies that were muscular with such detail. It seems they really took to the human body in its most perfect form, exposing everything.

Frankenstein

Now that I've read well into the book I've realized my perception about Frankenstein was a little twisted. I think that people today make you think that Frankenstein was about some really evil mad scientist looking to create a monster for malevolent reasons. I feel the complete opposite way now reading into this book. It funny how over time the story changes and people like the idea of it being strickly evil and scary but this has to be to attrack an audience. I feel bad for Victor because he makes himself sick from being so wrapped up in his work that he wouldnt sleep and eat at times. This story has alot of drama and pity involved in it because of all the horrible things that happens to everyone throughtout the story, its just all about people dieing.

Hello Class

Hello everyone, i can't beleive my senior summer is finally here. I'm sure many of you feel the same. Im looking forward to this class and everything entailed in it.
